Many people begin their search for help by looking for the right method.
They read about therapeutic approaches, spiritual practices, nervous system techniques, or insight models, hoping that the correct combination will finally bring relief or clarity. This makes sense. When something hurts or feels confusing, we want tools that promise movement.
And yet, over time, many people discover something quieter and more surprising:

Techniques Can Help—But They Are Not the Foundation
Therapeutic and spiritual techniques matter. Skills for regulation, reflection, and awareness can be genuinely helpful. Practices such as mindfulness, cognitive reframing, somatic grounding, or contemplative prayer often support healing in real ways.
But techniques do not operate in a vacuum.

The Risk of Technique-Driven Healing
When healing becomes overly technique-driven, subtle problems can emerge:

Healing, understood this way, is not primarily about feeling better quickly or achieving insight efficiently. It is about becoming more able to stay present to one’s life as it actually is.

less urgency to resolve what cannot yet be resolved
